Stephen King's 'The Talisman' will have its own series on Netflix thanks to Spielberg and the creators of 'Stranger Things'

According to 'The Hollywood Reporter', Netflix is preparing a series of 'The Talisman', by Stephen King, with the Duffer brothers and Steven Spielberg.

The Talisman, the bestselling novel by Stephen King and Peter Straub, will be adapted into a series by Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In an age where exclusive content has become a key pillar for any platform, Netflix knows it can't take its foot off the gas. The talisman, by the names that lead it, could be one of the most important productions of the service in the coming years.

According to the aforementioned medium, the El talisman series will be produced by Steven Spielberg, a face is more than known in the entertainment industry. In fact, Spielberg himself has acknowledged his admiration for the work of Stephen King and Peter Straub. Two years before its publication (1982), the filmmaker acquired the rights to El talisman for a possible adaptation. Four decades later he will have the opportunity to produce it through his company: Amblin Television.

However, Spielberg is not the only big-name stakeholder. The Duffer brothers, world-renowned for being the creators of Stranger Things, will serve as executive producers on the series. For his part, Curtis Gwinn will be the showrunner and screenwriter of The Talisman. Gwinn already has plenty of experience working with Matt and Ross Duffer, as he is the writer and executive producer of Stranger Things. It will be their second project together for Netflix.

It is worth mentioning that Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, and Todd Cohen, also of Amblin Television, will accompany Steven Spielberg in the production. Of course, at the moment there is no information on the release date. It is clear that The Talisman is still in an early stage of development. It should not surprise us if their arrival takes several years to wait. Additionally, the Duffer brothers continue to work on Stranger Things.

The talisman centers on the story of Jack Sawyer, a 12-year-old boy who ventures out to find a remedy that allows him to cure his mother's illness. That remedy, by the way, is a talisman that can save not only its mother but also the whole world. However, as in other Stephen King novels, Sawyer lives a journey of terror and fantasy. Even visiting a parallel world known as "The Territories."
