'Matrix 4' and the 'simulation within simulation' theory that could become a reality

Matrix 4 would be a great opportunity to materialize one of the best theories about the movies and Neo's abilities in the real world.

Matrix 4 is a reality and is due to arrive at the end of 2021. We still do not have a trailer and we do not have a synopsis. Therefore we do not know the story arc that justifies the return of Neo and Trinity. But one of the more classic theories about movies could be the answer.

The first three Matrix films were released between 1999 and 2003, at that time the internet was different and social networks were not yet popular. Most of the discussions related to the films happened in discussion forums, so it is a bit difficult to find the origin of the theory.

In the Matrix, they explain to us that Neo's abilities and the powers of the agents occur only and solely within the simulation mounted by the machines. In the real world, things are as usual.

But in Matrix: Reloaded Neo is able to control machines in the real world and Agent Smith takes possession of Bane. How is that possible, if any power or ability of both should occur only and solely in a simulation? It was a great surprise for those who saw the film at the time, who

Hence this popular theory: the real world is actually another level of simulation created by machines. Another form of control in which humans are made to believe that they are liberated, that, that they are liberated.

That way, Neo's powers in the supposed real world, or Smith's transfer to Bane , could be explained much more plausibly. In the first case, its powers remain in digital simulations, and in the second case it involves one program transferring to another.

With the arrival of Matrix: Revolutions the theory never came true. It was half justified, but not much more. It was a downer for many who expected more complex situations that challenge the audience, as happened with the original Matrix.

Will 'Matrix 4' explain the existence of one simulation within another?

The theory of a Matrix within the Matrix could return with Matrix 4. Not only would it explain well * Neo's "telekinesis", but also the return of the character with Trinity. They both died in the third act of the third film in the franchise.

There is more "proof" that reality is actually another level of simulation, like Neo "seeing" machines, in the same way, that he is able to see code. Now, with the fourth installment of the series, it is possible that Lana Wachowski will explore the possibility of simulations within simulations that would give a different and very interesting dimension to her universe.

It would also make sense in the context of Culture and Simulation. It is an essay written by Jean Baudrillard that the directors asked all the actors to read, as it was a very important inspiration for the script of the film.

This explains the nullability of humanity to see the world for what it really is. It would be a perfect analogy that fits the theory: humanity liberated, which in reality is not liberated, unable to see that they have simply accessed another layer of an extremely complex simulation to use their bodies as batteries.

Directed and written by Lana Wachowski, Matrix 4 will be released in theaters and HBO Max on December 22, 2021. Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith, return and will be joined by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, and Jonathan Groff.
