KB5001391 [Manual Download] Windows 10 2004, 20H2 and 21H1 1904x.962

Microsoft released a new update for download this night, KB 5001391 as a non-security update. The version number increases to 19041.962, 19042.962, or 19043.962. What's new is that Microsoft has backported the news and interests from the Dev-Insider.

The assumption was already there, because at the pace at which Microsoft developed the new display for the taskbar and also withheld the Feature Experience Pack.

As a note: the update has only been officially released in the beta and RP channels. But it will certainly follow later for Windows 10 2004 and 20H2. Here are the other changes:

Known issues with KB5001391

  • None knew so far.

Problems fixed by KB5001391

  • We fixed an issue that resulted in a webpage not switching out of Microsoft Edge IE mode as expected.
  • We fixed an issue where mandatory profiles are not completely removed when you log out when using the group policy "Delete cached copies of roaming profiles".
  • We fixed an issue that resulted in blank tiles appearing in the Start menu with names like "ms-resource: AppName" or "ms-resource: appDisplayName". These empty tiles represent the installed applications and are displayed for about 15 minutes after the update to a newer version of Windows 10. Installing this update will prevent these blank tiles from appearing in the Start menu.
  • We fixed an issue with the Microsoft Japanese Input Method Editor (IME) that was preventing an app's custom candidate window from displaying correctly.
  • We fixed an issue that occurs when installing inventory applications.
  • We fixed an issue that includes kernel mode rules for .NET applications in Windows Defender Application Control policies. As a result, the generated guidelines are significantly larger than necessary.
  • We fixed an issue resulting in devices failing the device health check.
  • We fixed an issue that turns off S mode when you enable System Guard Secure Launch on a system running Windows 10 in S mode.
  • We fixed an issue resulting in lsass.exe memory usage increasing until the system becomes unusable. This occurs when Transport Layer Security (TLS) resumes a session.
  • We fixed a problem with a race condition between the task scheduler and the workstation service. As a result, users cannot automatically join an Azure Active Directory (AAD) hybrid domain and error 0x80070490 is generated.
  • We fixed an issue causing Azure Active Directory authentication to fail after logging in to Windows Virtual Desktop machines.
  • We fixed an issue causing AAD work accounts to unexpectedly disappear from certain apps like Microsoft Teams or Microsoft Office.
  • We fixed an issue with a partial Service Connection Point (SCP) configuration that was causing dsregcmd.exe to stop working. This issue occurs because of a case-sensitive name comparison of domain IDs that occurs when joining an Azure Active Directory hybrid domain with single sign-on (SSO).
  • We fixed an issue that accidentally triggers hybrid AAD join when the group policy “Register domain joined computers as devices” is set to DISABLED.
  • We added the ability to adjust the length of time a headset goes to sleep before a headset goes to sleep in the Windows Mixed Reality Settings app.
  • We fixed an issue that could produce a stop error when running Docker containers with process isolation.
  • We fixed an issue that caused automatic registration and certificate retrieval to fail with the error "The parameter is incorrect."
  • We fixed an issue that could cause Microsoft Defender Application Guard virtual machines to stop responding when Microsoft Defender Application Guard for Office opens a document. This problem can occur on some devices or in drivers that use GPU Hardware Accelerated Scheduling.
  • We fixed an issue that was preventing some media players from playing content on hybrid devices running with dGPU on iGPU displays.
  • We fixed an issue with race conditions causing high CPU usage. As a result, the system stops working and deadlocks occur.
  • We fixed a deadlock problem in the New Technology File System (NTFS).
  • We fixed an issue that in some cases causes DWM.exe to stop working.
  • We fixed an issue that could cause an application screen to not work when using a Remote Desktop ActiveX control embedded in an HTML page.
  • We have improved the Windows Server Storage Migration Service by:
  • Added support for migrating NetApp FAS arrays to Windows servers and clusters.
  • Fixed several issues and improved reliability.
