Cortana on Android and iOS, Microsoft throws in the towel

Microsoft is officially dropping its Cortana app for Android and iOS. It will no longer be supported from tomorrow.

It is not a surprise. The software giant officially announced this decision last year during the summer of 2020. Its “digital” assistant is definitely abandoning mobile platforms.

In other words, Cortana is saying goodbye to the iPhone and Android smartphones. Please note that the application is not abandoned for all that. It remains relevant on Windows and other products of the firm. The change concerns its orientation with now an approach focused on the business world.

Cortana on iOS and Android is the end

There is nothing surprising about all of this because Cortana's popularity has never been extraordinary on mobile devices. In addition, Microsoft has to face very stiff competition because the iPhone and Android come with their own assistants.

Similarly, its success in Windows 10 is not really there, especially on the side of the general public. Microsoft is therefore changing its position by now targeting companies.

In a recent technical document, Microsoft explains

“As we announced in July, we will soon be ending support for the Cortana app on Android and iOS. Cortana continues to evolve as a productivity assistant. As of March 31, 2021, Cortana content you've created - such as reminders and lists - will no longer work in the Cortana mobile app, but can still be viewed through Cortana in Windows. In addition, Cortana reminders, lists, and tasks automatically sync with the Microsoft To Do app, which you can download to your phone for free. After March 31, 2021, the Cortana mobile app on your phone will no longer be supported."
