AMD Releases "Midnight Black" Version of the Radeon RX 6800 XT

AMD surprises us with a Radeon RX 6800 XT Midnight Black, which inside is the same as the original model, changing only its black color. It is only available from AMD as of today.

We do not know if the price will be the same, but we do know that it was launched today, so AMD disguises itself in black to conquer several users. This conquest will not be easy considering the state of shortage of graphics cards of the RX 6000, which are non-existent in stores and this announcement may add more fuel to the fire.

AMD RX 6800 XT "Midnight Black": the same, but in black

At 6 AM today, AMD is going to present its “Midnight Black” edition of the Radeon RX 6800 XT, whose difference is that it is a reference model in black; yes, respecting the metal parts. It does not seem that we see different specifications to the RX 6800 XT, so we recall them briefly:

  • RDNA architecture 2.
  • Navi 21 XT chipset.
  • Frequencies: from 1825 MHz to 2250 MHz.
  • 4608 shaders.
  • 72 Ray Accelerators.
  • 16 GB GDDR6 at 16 Gbps.
  • 128 MB of Infinity Cache.
  • 256-bit memory bus (512 GB / s).
  • 300 W TGP.
  • Recommended retail price of $ 649.

A 2.5-slot design and the same 2 8-pin PCIe connectors are expected, but it looks like it's going to cost more than those "fictitious" $ 649 since we haven't seen a single model set at that price. The full communication from the AMD team is as follows:

Based on community feedback and user demand, we have created a select quantity of RX 6800 XT Midnight Black with the same performance as the original.

This is an exclusive notice for members of the AMD Red Team community, being an offer with limited availability, while supplies last.

It will only be available on AMD.com beginning April 7, 2021 at 6 AM PST / 9 AM EST / 3 PM CEST / 9 PM TW.

Thank you for your passion and enthusiasm as part of the Red Team. You are with us every step of the way, sharing our enthusiasm for product development and presentation.

Good luck, have fun, and if you buy an AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT GPU, be sure to share your excitement by mentioning @Radeon on social media and using the hashtag #GameOnAMD!

Thank you for being a part of the AMD Red Team!

This statement makes several things clear:

  • There will be limited units for sale (more so).
  • We understand that the price will be higher than the original RX 6800 XT.
  • Once sold out, there will be no more units.
  • They can only be purchased on the AMD website.
  • Its performance will be the same as the original.

Therefore, it is only a special edition that offers a distinctive look, which will not take long to sell. Also, do not rule out that we see it exposed for sale on portals such as StockX or eBay; think that there is a lot of AMD Radeon fan who would be willing to pay for it.

What do you think of this model? Do you think we will see it on resale? Is it worth paying more?
