They hack the Nvidia RTX 3060 and manage to jump its limit for mining cryptocurrencies

Chinese cryptocurrency miners managed to bypass Nvidia's hash rate limit on their GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card.

When Nvidia introduced the CMP processors, dedicated exclusively to mining cryptocurrencies, it also pointed out that it would reduce the hash rate - processing power of the Bitcoin network - of the GeForce RTX 3060 by 50%. That is, it is now less efficient to mine cryptocurrencies. However, this limitation appears to have been overcome by Chinese miners just a few weeks later.

The Geforce RTX 3060, with the hash rate limiter announced by Nvidia, should grant a maximum of 20-25 MH / s in cryptocurrency mining. However, the Dagger Hashi-Motto algorithm would have unlocked its full potential. According to I_Leak_VN, the aforementioned card is capable of achieving 45 MH / s processing in Ethereum mining, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, after Bitcoin.

As if this were not enough, a Vietnamese Facebook group also ensures that the algorithm is effective. According to them, the Nvidia RTX 3060 is capable of delivering up to 50 MH / s, although they have not mentioned the type of cryptocurrency with which they have put it to the test.

Nvidia, mining, and the graphics card stock problem

If the above is true, it could negatively impact the gaming community. Some cards like the RTX 3070, RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 have long been near impossible to get. This situation has arisen due to several factors, such as the low production caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the purchase for resale at exorbitant prices and the demand monopolized by cryptocurrency miners.

Nvidia recognized the problem and recently came up with two solutions. One of them was limiting the hash rate of its GeForce RTX 3000 cards for gamers. However, after the above mentioned it seems to have been little effective. On the other hand, it launched a dedicated line for professional mining called CMP HX (Cryptocurrency Mining Processor).

These processors, according to Nvidia, will arrive in four versions, with powers ranging from 26 MH / s to 86 MH / s, depending on the model. In addition, they will have a lower peak core frequency and voltage and will lack video output, which will improve cooling.
