'The Walking Dead' 10 × 20: the past that haunts us and continues to hurt

We review what happened in episode 10x20 of 'The Walking Dead', which this time focuses on the character of Princess.

We return to the apocalypse one more time during The Walking Dead season 10 extension. Episode 10 × 20, titled "Splinter" ("Splinter"), takes us to know a little about the fate of the group led by Eugene. Of course, as seems to be the trend in this installment, little will be known about the situation in general and it will be decided to develop and deepen a character.

Before continuing, we remember not to continue reading if you have not seen chapter 10 × 20 of The Walking Dead.

Since that suspenseful finale to Season 10 in 2020, we haven't heard from Eugene and co. In this kind of appendix to the tenth season, we have covered every little of global history, but it has given us revealing and complex chapters. In "Splinter" the format is repeated again, although with the addition that finally the Commonwealth arc is given continuity. Little, but it is done.

"Splinter" focuses on Princess, this quirky character we met on the show towards the end of Season 10 . Let us remember that Eugene, Yumiko, and Ezequiel find her, or rather she catches them, in an abandoned city, where she tries to survive although she has remained in complete solitude. Undoubtedly this episode addresses the issue of past wounds, of those "splinters" that are there within us and continue to affect, hurt, and that are sometimes decisive in the paths we take.

Princess, more than a crazy character

One of the strengths of The Walking Dead, even despite its undeniable ups and downs, is the depth of the characters, of the human aspect in all its variants under extreme and terrifying conditions. This is why since we met Princess on the AMC series, and shortly after seeing her interact with the main group, we knew that she was not simply a crazy and playful character. And in "Splinter" it is demonstrated.

And it is that after a military group catches our friends, they are forcibly separated and locked in train cars. We stay next to Princess and watch her deal with her stress in different ways: counting steps in Spanish, reciting the capitals of the United States in alphabetical order, taking a deep breath, talking to herself to calm herself. This is where a story begins that we soon began to distrust.

Princess tries to communicate with Yumiko, who is in the next car. Trying to remove a plank splinter, resulting in a painful talk about his past. Princess tries to keep in touch with Yumiko who sounds hurt and weak. Later Yumiko does not respond and the strange uniformed characters come for her. Princess freaks out and then realizes there is another board she could remove and she does. Once outside, he meets Eugene, who tells him not to put everyone at risk, that his friend Stephanie is to be trusted and they are only being tested.

The Commonwealth from 'The Walking Dead'

Princess obeys and they soon go for her. They bathe her, question her, but she refuses to give information and they, in turn, refuse to clarify anything about her identity or why they are being detained. In the end, one of the uniformed commented on this community that the followers of The Walking Dead comic know very well.

What happens with Princess is very peculiar, although for the middle of the episode we intuit it. And it is that suddenly Ezekiel appears and tells him that they will be able to escape; those are when a soldier arrives. Ezekiel knocks him out and they start questioning him. He says very little about what happens in that place, but he assures that they are protecting the good people of the community to which he belongs. They do not let him delve further and Ezekiel begins to beat him uncontrollably.

It is here that it is revealed that Princess is the one who is beating up the man. It is revealed that what he saw in the wagon, such as the exit by which he was able to exit and meet Eugene, did not exist. Neither was the peephole where he was supposedly in contact with Yumiko. Still, she disarms the soldier and tries to flee, but it is she herself who stops. Then he argues with Ezekiel in his mind and tells him that they are his friends despite knowing them little because the time in the apocalypse is measured in other ways.

Get over the splinter

So Princess returns to the wagon, talks to the soldier and he tells her that she must trust what they are doing with them and that they will be safe. Thus, Princess returns to refer to the splinter she had, as a symbol that her mind leaves the pain behind. And it is that his mind, without a doubt, was only trying, paradoxical as it may seem, to keep it safe and as healthy as possible. She asks the soldier to tell her about his friends and he tells her that he will soon find out. Ask them to open the door and we can see the rest of the group covered with hoods over their heads before they cover the Princess herself.

The remaining episodes of The Walking Dead are only two. In the 10 × 21 previews, it is shown that we will hear from Carol and Daryl, who already had their own episode. We will see if it is more advanced on global history or we will settle for these epilogue episodes that, although they do not advance too much, they have been very deep and entertaining.
