MSI 500 chipset boards get updated: SAM support for Ryzen 3000

AGESA 1.2.0.1 BETA comes to MSI motherboards with A520, B550, and X570 chipsets, whose main novelty is the AIDA64 test for memory and Smart Access Memory support in Ryzen Zen 2 processors. Support for NVIDIA Resizable BAR still It is pending confirmation, but the Ryzen 3000 will be able to work with SAM.

AMD "shoots" and then backs away, and it's a fairly common move in company lines. Initially, Smart Access Memory was only going to be available on 500 motherboards and with Ryzen 5000, confirming a strong ecosystem approach with the Radeon RX 6000. However, time passes and the brand recoils, but in a positive way: the Ryzen 3000 will definitely be compatible.

AGESA 1.2.0.1 brings SAM support in Zen 2, and Resizable BAR

MSI has announced that all its 500 series motherboards have the AGESA 1.2.0.1 update available, which brings 3 main new features:

  • Bugs fixed in SMART reports.
  • Correction of bugs in the AIDA64 memory benchmark.
  • Support Smart Memory Access processors AMD Ryzen 3000 (Zen 2).

First, we want to focus on this SAM support in Zen 2, and it is that MSI has provided a test in the form of a capture of a Ryzen 9 3900XT running with an RX 6800 in Smart Access Memory. AMD has been backing down according to the controversy of the support of this technology, something we like to say because the brand rectifies in favor of the users.

On the other hand, what about Resizable BAR? NVIDIA has confirmed that this technology only works on Ryzen 5000 and Intel Comet Lake-S and Rocket Lake-S. At the moment, it is only available for the desktop RTX 3060, but we have seen that many motherboards from ASUS (pioneer), GIGABYTE, MSI, etc., have been updating their BIOS offering ReBAR at both Intel and AMD.

The L3 cache correction in the AIDA64 test deserves mention, something that Reddit users have reported, among other forums. This bug led users to believe that AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs gave less performance.

Finally, it remains to collect the MSI X570, B550, and A520 motherboards that have received this AGESA 1.2.0.1 update. We provide you with a complete list:
