Now it's serious! Facebook prepares antitrust lawsuit against Apple

According to information released by The Information newspaper, Facebook is about to escalate its fight against Apple and formally file an antitrust lawsuit against Tim Cook's company, claiming that it would be adopting "anti-competitive practices" to stifle competition. According to the sources of the journal, the lawsuit has already been prepared "for months" by the social network.

The central point of the debate must be the fact that Apple does not allow third-party applications to be configured as defaults for, for example, instant messaging - remember that Mark Zuckerberg's company has already exchanged pins after trying to get Apple would allow iOS users to switch from iMessage to Facebook Messenger as the main text communication app.

In addition, the social network must also continue with its criticisms of the charging model of the App Store (which requires developers to use the payment platform of the store itself, which charges a 30% fee on each transaction made internally) and the App Track Transparency (ATT), which alerts the user if the application in question collects personal information for advertising purposes.

Facebook's argument is likely to be that Apple's software is not subject to ATT - a claim that doesn't make much sense since Apple "swears to stand together" not to collect data from its customers for targeted advertising. This will not be the first time that Zuckerberg has opposed such a privacy policy implemented in iOS 14; several criticisms have already been made publicly.

It is worth remembering that, at the end of 2020, Facebook announced that it would support Epic Games in its own lawsuit against Apple; therefore, it is very likely that the developer of Fortnite and other video games will do the same to “return the favor”.
