Google YouTube Xbox version already supports HDR video playback: Xbox One S and newer consoles are compatible

OnMSFT reported that the YouTube application of Xbox game consoles can finally play videos with high dynamic range (HDR). According to the official support page, all Xbox game consoles since Xbox One S in 2016 support HDR playback on YouTube.

Microsoft was the first console manufacturer to bring HDR to game consoles through Xbox One S, but it was clear that it took some time for YouTube to adapt its Xbox app. Compared with Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, YouTube may not be the best place to find high-quality HDR content, but you can also easily find HDR videos on YouTube by searching.

We have been informed that most 4K TVs now support HDR and Dolby Vision. These two vision technologies will display higher contrast and more colors than standard digital video. HDR can make a real difference between videos and games, and it’s great to see that the YouTube app on Xbox finally supports this format.

If you enable HDR in the TV and display options of the game console, your TV should automatically switch to its HDR mode when watching videos or playing HDR games. Microsoft's new Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S also come with a new "Auto HDR" setting, which uses an algorithm to perform HDR processing on SDR games, and the results are impressive.
