ASUS unveils the smallest ROG Strix on Ampere - GeForce RTX 3060

The Taiwanese manufacturer ASUS has unveiled the most compact graphics accelerator in the ROG Strix series. The novelty is built on the NVIDIA GA106-300 graphics processor, which is used at the heart of the GeForce RTX 3060 model.

ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 ROG Strix received the familiar look of the cooling system, consisting of three aluminum radiators with five heat pipes and three fans that support the full stop function.  They will not start until the GPU temperature exceeds 50 degrees Celsius.

On the back of the video card, there is an additional stiffness plate with a cutout for more efficient airflow circulation.

As mentioned above, ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 ROG Strix is the most compact graphics card in this design. For comparison, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti ROG Strix is 318.5 mm long and 57.8 mm thick. It requires 2.9 free expansion slots in the PC case. The length of the GeForce RTX 3060 ROG Strix is exactly 300 mm, and the thickness is 53.5 mm. In a PC case, it will take up 2.7 expansion slots.

But the main differences between the models, of course, lie precisely in their layout. The GeForce RTX 3060 is based on the GA106 chip with 3584 CUDA cores, which is 1280 less than the Ti variant. The number of texture units and rasterization units also differs, which is not in favor of the novelty. However, the  GeForce RTX 3060 is equipped with faster GDDR6 memory with an effective frequency of 15 GHz, but with a lower bus width. In addition, there is more memory itself - as much as 12 GB.

ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 ROG Strix is equipped with one 8-pin auxiliary power connector, which is more than enough for the declared TDP level of the card, which is 170 W. Recall that the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is equipped with two of these connectors.

ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 ROG Strix video card received a non-standard set of external video interfaces. It consists of two HDMI 2.1 and three DisplayPort 1.4.

The manufacturer did not say anything about the price of the GeForce RTX 3060 ROG Strix. The company has not yet decided on the final frequency characteristics of the new product - options with and without factory overclocking will be available for sale. According to NVIDIA, GeForce RTX 3060 graphics cards from various manufacturers will begin shipping in late February.
