The PC Security Channel: Testing Bitdefender and Kaspersky against Ransomware

The YouTube channel The PC Security Channel has published a comparative test of Bitdefender Internet Security and Kaspersky Internet Security antiviruses for detecting and blocking ransomware.

Antivirus testing Bitdefender Internet Security and Kaspersky Internet Security was carried out on April 1, 2021, on two identical Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) operating systems running in VMware Workstation. Both antiviruses had the latest versions and virus database updates.

Testing was carried out using 62 common scrambler samples that have been encountered frequently over the past 5 years. The malware was launched from a network location, and a Python script was used to automate their launch.

In the first testing, standard antivirus settings were used with all functions enabled and with Internet access. At the second stage, the Internet and file antivirus was turned off in order to check the level of proactive detection without using a virus database and cloud analysis.
