PowerToys 0.36.0 was released as an experimental version

On April 2nd, Microsoft made the PowerToys 0.35.0 available for download, immediately indicating that there will be an experimental version due to the lack of muting of the video conferences. And there it is now.

Otherwise, this version corresponds to 0.35. “This is our first version where the webcam driver is actually a DirectShow filter. This solves a large number of quirks and simplifies the signing through our compile pipeline".

Currently known problems and limitations:

  • Some webcams have an incompatibility with Teams and the overlay image will not be rendered and an incorrect image will be displayed instead. If your camera has this quirk, please let us know the model here.
  • In the application preview (Teams, Meet, etc.) the overlay image may be shown flipped horizontally, but this is to be expected, the image will be displayed correctly for the other participants in the call.
  • Changes to some VCM settings require the application to be restarted for the new values to take effect, e.g. B. a new overlay image.
  • In some cases, the overlay image may appear flipped vertically (the workaround is to edit the image and flip it before selecting).
  • If the PowerToys Video Conference Mute webcam doesn't appear in the video conferencing app, try restarting the app, and if it still doesn't appear, try restarting Windows.
