If damage occurs to a Surface device that is not covered by the guarantee, you have the option of submitting the device to Microsoft for service for a fee. Different flat rates are charged depending on the type of damage.
The price list shows the cost of replacing the battery for some Surface models. I honestly have to admit that it's been a while since I last looked, but according to Twitter user Barb Bowman (via Borncit), battery replacement is new.
All flat rates can be viewed on the Microsoft support page. When I did that, I noticed that you can also order spare parts for Surface Earbuds and Headphones, from cables and ear cups to cases. Here, too, I have to admit: I have no idea how long it has been, but it's good to know.
For the Surface Pro 7, for example, the battery replacement costs 309.40 euros, while the Surface Pro 4 and 5 have a general repair fee of 480.76 euros, and it practically does not matter whether there is a small scratch on the display or the device is off was run over by a car.
The fact that the battery will actually be replaced can be ruled out with a probability bordering on certainty since the batteries in the Surface devices are glued over the entire surface. You will therefore most likely always receive a refurbished replacement device, and it is not uncommon for you to even get brand-new goods.
