Microsoft Edge 91.0.852.0 in the dev channel and Google Chrome 89.0.4389.128 with two fixed security holes

Today I am bundling two browser updates in one post. The Google Chrome (Stable) was updated to 89.0.4389.128 yesterday. Two security holes that were classified as "high" have been fixed here. Microsoft Edge in the dev channel also got an update (91.0.852.0) with new functions.

  • The possibility has been added to open the administration pages History, Favorites, Downloads etc. by clicking with the middle mouse button or Ctrl + click on the corresponding buttons in the toolbar or in the menu ... of the browser or the new entry in the respective context menu use.
  • A button for attaching files has been added to the main feedback dialog. Note that this functionality was already available before, but was hidden behind the "Diagnostic data" link.
  • The rollout of the password monitor has been completed.
  • Shopping discounts are now enabled by default after the rollout is complete.
  • Support has been enabled for Chromium's management policy to control startup page import settings, which controls whether or not importing data from another browser includes importing startup settings.

Fixed issues

  • Fixed some crashes when opening and closing the browser.
  • Fixed a crash when performing a web search.
  • Fixed an issue where opening a PWA or a webpage installed as an app would crash the browser.
  • Fixed a crash on Mac when viewing edge: // settings / help.
  • Fixed a crash when sending feedback.
  • A crash when removing a profile has been fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where certain websites would crash randomly.
  • Fixed a crash when entering certain web pages.
  • Fixed a crash when interacting with the Downloads pop-up menu in an InPrivate window.
  • Fixed an issue where attempting to open collection items in an InPrivate window when InPrivate is disabled through the management policy resulted in a crash.
  • Fixed an issue where adding many tabs to a collection sometimes crashes.
  • Other issues fixed: techcommunity

Open issues

  • Nothing has changed here compared to the previous versions. But they are not serious errors either or are due to old installed software.
  • Certain extensions, such as B. the Microsoft Editor extension do not work on Linux. Once installed, they will crash and be disabled. We are currently investigating this.
  • Users of certain ad blocker extensions may experience playback errors on Youtube. As a workaround, temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback.
  • Some users still experience an issue where all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error. The most common cause of this error is out of date security or antivirus software
  • For users of Kaspersky Internet Suite who have installed the associated extension, websites such as Gmail may sometimes not load. This error occurs because the main Kaspersky software is out of date
  • The deduplication in the Edge Stable should always be given a little more time. Otherwise, favorites are displayed twice.
  • Some users see a "wobble" when scrolling with trackpad gestures or touchscreens, scrolling in one dimension also causing the page to scroll slightly back and forth in the other dimension. This is most likely related to our ongoing work to bring the scrolling back to parity with Edge Legacy's behavior. So if this behavior is undesirable, you can turn it off temporarily by turning off the edge: // flags / # edge-experimental-scrolling flag.
