AMD Adrenalin 2020 21.4.1 graphics driver is available for download with many new features

AMD has updated its graphics driver to version 21.4.1. The list of highlights is very long this time. These include AMD Link, Radeon Software, Record & Stream, Performance Tuning and AMD Crash Defender.

Furthermore, Microsoft PlayReady AV1 decoding support and support for AMD Eyefinity will be extended to Ryzen Mobile 4000 and Ryzen Mobile 5000 series.

The highlights in detail

AMD Link

  • A brand new AMD Link for Windows is now available that will allow you to stream your games and desktop to other PCs with Radeon graphics.
  • New "Link Game" feature that allows you to easily connect with a friend to play games together on a PC or even help them troubleshoot a PC problem.
  • Redesigned streaming technology for better graphics and lower latency times.
  • New Quality-of-Service function that dynamically adapts your streaming settings to your Internet connection.
  • Now supports streaming at up to 4k / 144fps.

Radeon software

  • Custom UI options are now available in the Radeon software installation to change the UI. There are options for a full installation, a minimal installation, and a pure driver installation.
  • Vivid Gaming Display with Color Enhancement: A new color profile that allows users to enable a more vibrant look for their display colors.
  • Chromatic Correction: A new feature that allows users to adjust their display colors for all three main types of chromatic aberration using strength sliders.
  • Improved search bar functionality.
  • Statistics information for games is now available in the "Games" tab.
  • History navigation buttons added to easily switch between tabs.
  • A toggle has been added to enable or disable the built-in web browser.
  • Added setting option to enable or disable all hotkeys with a single click.

Record & Stream

  • The recording and streaming settings have been combined in one easy-to-use tab.
  • There is now a new streaming wizard to help the user configure their recording and streaming settings. A new "adaptive" quality setting is available in the wizard that allows Radeon software to monitor your stream and make quality changes based on the performance of your stream.
  • Improved usability of the scene editor for creating and editing scenes.
  • An option is now available to choose which display to record or stream from in multiple display configurations.

Performance optimization

  • The Performance Metrics tab in the Radeon software has been expanded to include CPU metrics and monitoring.
  • Improvements to the Performance Metrics tab, including design updates to the graphs of the metrics, more performance indicators, improved logging controls, and improved performance overlay controls and graphs.

AMD Crash Defender

  • Preserves data and keeps your system running in some cases that would otherwise have caused the system to crash or hang.

Fixed issues:

  • In some games or applications, there may be intermittent brightness flickering when Radeon FreeSync is activated and the game is set to be borderless full screen.
  • SteamVR may experience an application crash when a VR headset is connected to Radeon RX 500 series graphics products.
  • Some high refresh rate, high resolution TV displays may malfunction when connected to Radeon RX 6000 series graphics products via HDMI.
  • Applying changes in Radeon Performance Tuning may sometimes not take effect after changes have been made to the performance tuning.
  • Some CPU intensive workloads or games may experience slower than expected performance.
  • Global performance tuning overclocking profiles can sometimes overwrite game-specific performance tuning profiles or cause game-specific performance tuning profiles to not load when starting a game.
  • Radeon Chill may perform less than expected if a game is left idle for an extended period of time with Radeon Chill enabled.
  • When playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Radeon RX 6000 series graphics products, a flicker may be observed in the Radeon Software Performance Overlay.

Known problems:

  • Enhanced Sync can cause a black screen on some games and system configurations when enabled. All users who experience problems with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable this feature as a temporary workaround.
  • Connecting two monitors with large differences in resolution / refresh rate can cause flickering in Radeon RX Vega series graphics products.
  • Radeon performance metrics and logging capabilities can intermittently report extremely high and incorrect memory clocks.
  • Cyberpunk 2077 may experience shadow errors on Radeon RX 6000 series graphics products when ray tracing is enabled.
  • With Disco Elysium ™, trees with Radeon RX 6000 graphics products may experience texture flicker.
  • The Radeon software can crash if the Record & Stream tab is used and a display is connected during operation.
  • Radeon FreeSync may intermittently hang if the desktop is tasked with the extended screen and the primary screen after exiting a game, causing poor performance or stuttering. A system restart is a possible workaround if this problem occurs.
  • Performance metrics may report incorrect temperatures on Ryzen 5 1600 series processors.
  • The buttons for downloading or starting Ryzen Master in the Radeon software may temporarily disappear or Ryzen Master cannot be initialized.
  • If Ryzen Master is not recognized in the Adrenalin software after installation, a system restart may be required.
