533,000,000 Facebook Account Details from 107 Countries Leaked on This Hacker's Forum

Facebook has seen how a group of hackers published on the Internet a list of public access with the private information of at least 533 million users of its platform. Among the leaked data are the names and surnames associated with their phone numbers, dates of birth, email addresses, biographies and locations, among other personal information such as marital status, account creation date, etc.

Of all these accounts, around 32 million users are from the United States, while Spain accumulates 11 million affected users. Being more generalists, 533 million users from 106 countries have been affected.

It was Alon Gal, a security researcher, who discovered that a user had posted all the information in a hacking forum and who gave the warning for users to start resetting their passwords, although it is expected that Facebook can activate some notices so that affected users modify the information. This data would have been stolen in 2019 when the existence of a vulnerability in Facebook was known that the company later patched.

"A database of that size containing private information, such as the phone numbers of many Facebook users, could lead to bad actors taking advantage of the data to carry out social engineering attacks or hacking attempts," he said Alon Gal to Insider.

All 533,000,000 Facebook records were just leaked for free.

This means that if you have a Facebook account, it is extremely likely the phone number used for the account was leaked.

I have yet to see Facebook acknowledging this absolute negligence of your data. https://t.co/ysGCPZm5U3 pic.twitter.com/nM0Fu4GDY8
