Windows 10: Microsoft would like to throw Paint 3D from the context menu

Microsoft is planning to remove the Paint 3D image processing tool from the Windows 10 21H2 installation package. This should also make the corresponding entry disappear from the context menu. The option is currently still displayed if the user has manually uninstalled the app.

Paint 3D was introduced with the Windows 10 Creators Update released in 2017. In contrast to the conventional paint app, the application offers the possibility of creating three-dimensional images. The program also includes many additional options for editing images. Although the app has numerous features and is preinstalled on Windows systems, Paint 3D has only been used by a few users.

The 'Edit with Paint 3D' option in the context menu is no longer available with Windows 10 21H2

For this reason, the Redmond company decided to throw Paint 3D out of the installation package of the preview build 21332, which was made available at the beginning of March. As of the upcoming function update, the app will no longer be preinstalled by default on Windows 10 PCs. Paint 3D can now be uninstalled manually.

The app is available in the Microsoft Store

However, the deinstallation does not result in the entry "Edit with Paint 3D" being deleted from the context menu. The option then points to the Microsoft Store, where the app can be downloaded again. According to Windows Latest, that should change soon.

The entry in the context menu should no longer appear if Paint 3D is no longer on the user's computer. The change should already be tested with the Insider Build 21332 and incorporated into a final version of the operating system with the 21H2.
