Windows 10 chaos: Microsoft delivers emergency patch again

First Microsoft stopped the delivery of the patch KB5001649, which should eliminate the cause of the crash for Windows 10 that had existed for days. But Microsoft is now delivering the patch again.

Microsoft is releasing the patch KB5001649 against the printer problem with Windows 10. Microsoft had previously pulled the ripcord and interrupted the delivery of the KB5001649 patch, such as Betanews and WindowsLatest reported. This repair update for Windows 10 is intended to eliminate a cause of crashes in connection with certain network printers. But this patch itself caused new problems or could not be installed in the first place. Therefore, Microsoft interrupted the delivery on the weekend.

The problems began with the patch day for March 2021 on March 10, 2021. Two patches published at that time (KB5000802 and KB5000808), in connection with certain network printers, caused Windows 10 to output a blue screen and the error code "APC_INDEX_MISMATCH", read more here: Current security updates cause Windows 10 to crash. As an emergency solution, Microsoft first presented a workaround for this problem and then brought an emergency update, which also included the KB5001567 patch. But this emergency update caused new problems, so Microsoft pushed an emergency update for the emergency update. That was patch KB5001649, which in turn caused new problems: Windows 10 receives a second emergency update for printing problems.

Therefore Microsoft suddenly stopped the delivery of the last patch KB5001649. There was no official announcement from Microsoft. The patch was still available in the Microsoft update catalog.

Instead of KB5001649, Microsoft meanwhile offered the older patch KB5001567 for installation, as added by WindowsLatest. But all of that is now history, Microsoft has been delivering KB5001649 for a few hours as a repair update for the blue screen-printer problem of Windows 10.
