What is super-wifi? Anatel approves 6 GHz frequency for the connection signal

Following the example of the American market, Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) made a new important decision regarding the use of the internet in Brazil. According to the agency, it was defined that the frequency of 6 GH z will be used exclusively for Wi-Fi 6E (6E for "extended", or, extended, in free translation), or, "super-wifi".

The decision goes against the expectations of operators in the country, who hoped to use the mobile Internet connection route. At the end of February, Anatel had approved the technical requirements for Wi-Fi 6E.

Anatel's decision came shortly after the definitions regarding the technical requirements for Wi-Fi 6E

Synonymous with the latest technology in a wireless connection, Wi-Fi 6E allows the development of more efficient routers, offers a faster and more stable signal for home and business consumers, in addition to allowing the expansion of virtual and augmented reality resources for smartphones and computers.

The new standard for wireless networks now includes equipment that operates in the range from 5,925 MHz to 7,125 MHz, modifying the current Act No. 14.448 / 2017, responsible for establishing the technical requirements for restricted radiation radiocommunication equipment.

Considering possibilities for future implementations, Anatel also decided not to set a channel width limit for Wi-Fi 6E, previously proposed at 320 MHz.

What is super-wifi?

The year 2021 should be the stage for several new cell phones,  notebooks, TVs, and routers equipped with   Wi-Fi 6E technology, expanding the current wireless connection up to 4 times.

Since April 2020, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has opened up this new spectrum band in the United States. With that, the Wi-Fi Alliance - an industry-wide group that oversees Wi-Fi - recently announced that it is certifying the first wave of products with support for the technology.

Basically, existing Wi-Fi devices operate in two spectrum bands: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Wi-Fi 6E adds a third band (6 GHz), practically quadrupling the total amount of waves used for the wireless connection. conventional.

Super-wifi arrives in Brazil

This will not only allow for more connections and greater speed but may also reduce interference. Since Wi-Fi 6E has more bandwidth available, there is less chance that you and your neighbors will “fight” for the same radio waves.

But as for arrival in Brazil, it is better to wait a while. For, although many products supporting Wi-Fi 6E will be released later this year, it may take some time before the technology is incorporated into most devices.
