TrendForce Estimates NAND Prices Will Increase 8%

The omen about the prices of NAND flash memories, commonly used in the market for SSDs and other similar types of storage, is not at all auspicious for this year 2021. The latest prediction from TrendForce estimates a price hike of around 8% of NAND products.

TrendForce said it expected to close the factory in Austin Samsung contributes to a quarterly increase in the price of NAND during the next quarter beginning in April.

TrendForce is a research company that tracks prices and everything related to NAND flash memory modules. The company says that the price of memory in the next quarter will rise between 3% and 8%, as the supply of memory controllers decreases.

Samsung had problems with its Austin factory in the United States that had to be closed due to the low temperatures that plagued the Texas region. This closure would have seriously affected the manufacture of controllers for SSD drives and many other components for different devices.

DigiTimes predictions state that controller manufacturing disruption could halt production of Samsung's PCIe SSDs by as much as 75% in March. The company's plan is to resume production of the controllers at the Austin factory in April and begin shipping in May.

In addition, according to TrendForce, these problems are combined with high demand from the laptop segment, which continues to rise as a result of the pandemic and work at home.

This can only mean one thing, higher prices for all those products and devices that use NAND flash memories, such as SSD drives, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, etc. We will keep you informed.
