Scarcity and mining give GIGABYTE, MSI and ASUS more GPU sales revenue

Not only resellers are winning, but the GPU manufacturers themselves, which have increased their revenues according to the figures published by each brand. There have been year-on-year increases of up to 66.4% while mining and shortages put gamers on edge.

It doesn't rain to everyone's liking, and this is a great example. In this case, we are not talking about resellers or speculators, but about the RTX 3000 or RX 6000 graphics card assemblers themselves. Brands such as ASUS, GIGABYTE, MSI, Leadtek and Chaintech have increased their revenues brutally, but the exact cause is not known. The graphics card market has risen in value due to the emergence of mining, as well as new releases from NVIDIA and AMD.

GPU makers double their revenue in January and February

How is it possible if there are practically no graphics cards available? We already talked about the shortage of graphics cards and the reasons that have caused this situation. Mining is not the only "culprit", but there is a change in the sector of great magnitudes:

  • Little manufacture.
  • Much more expensive logistics.

Only these 2 variants already cause a significant price rise, so imagine what happens if we add the " extra ingredient ": cryptocurrency mining. And is that the miners do not buy one or two graphics cards, but mount RIGs of more than 5 and 10 GPUs. Well, if gamers weren't already upset, GPU manufacturers rub their hands in this situation.

Based on the revenue figures published by each manufacturer, the summary would be as follows:

  • ASUS: it is the one that enters the most with almost 21 billion euros (at the exchange rate) between the last 2 months. Its annual growth increases by 57.9%.
  • GIGABYTE: it entered 5 billion euros (at the change) in the last 2 months, growing its income by 58.9%.
  • MSI: from January to February they enter 892 million euros (at the exchange rate), which represents a year-on-year growth of 66.4%.

On the other hand, there are other Chinese brands that have risen like foam due to the situation:

  • Chaintech, revenues of 23 million euros (at the exchange rate) in the last 2 months. The interannual growth is 227.5%.
  • Leadtek, revenues of 28 million euros (at the change), achieving a growth of 97.5% in the same period.

These brands are only seen in China, and it is logical to go to smaller manufacturers when ASUS, GIGABYTE or MSI do not have enough GPUs in stock to meet the demand. We think it's a rebound effect that smaller GPU makers will take advantage of.

Prosperity will accompany graphics card manufacturers throughout 2021, but despite the efforts of NVIDIA CMP and limited GeForces, mining will continue to have its eyes on the RTX 3000. For now, analysts forecast a new revenue record in the next 9 months, which makes it clear that mining will continue to demand graphics cards.

Do you consider that the situation is fair? Who is winning?
