RTX 3080 Ti will compete with the RX 6900 XT: Its price will start from $ 999

NVIDIA will position its RTX 3080 Ti between the 3080 and the RTX 3090, occupying a similar position to the Radeon RX 6900 XT in price and performance. Its launch would be set in mid-April and it will equip almost the same CUDA cores as the NVIDIA RTX 30 flagship.

The RTX 3080 Ti does not show its face, but details about it will be revealed soon because its launch could be in 1 month. It is a vitamin version of the RTX 3080, which will improve it in CUDA cores, RT Cores, Tensor Cores and memory. Specifically, it will be the 3rd RTX 3000 GPU to come with GDDR6X memory, equipping 2 GB more than its little sister.

The RTX 3080 Ti already has a price: from $ 999

Information from Asia indicates that the RTX 3080 Ti would have an introductory price of around $ 999, which is $ 300 more than the RTX 3080's starting price in September. Both its price and its performance aim to topple the AMD RX 6900 XT from its battle position, although does it really exist?

Of course, in Europe, we will see a slightly higher price, as has already happened with the RX 6900 XT:

Regarding the specifications of the RTX 3080 Ti, there are a number of contradictions in the information we receive. For greater transparency, we put them in a summarized way:

  • CUDA cores. In principle, the NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti would equip the same as the RTX 3090 (10496), but the new information points to 10240 shaders (80 SM).
  • VRAM memory. Initially, 20 GB GDDR6X was expected, but it seems that it will finally equip 12 GB GDDR6X.
  • Memory bus. Here the figure has been increased from 320 bits to 384 bits.

Seen like this, it looks like the RTX 3080 Ti would have just enough to beat the RX 6900 XT in Ray Tracing, but will it do the same without RTX? In our RTX 3000 vs RX 6000 comparison, the RX 6900 XT held up superbly in 1080p and 1440p (it was the winner), leaving the 4K lead to the RTX 3090.

It must be said that, in that comparison, NVIDIA did not have a Resizable BAR at that time, so the RTX 3080 Ti could benefit from this newly released technology. For miners, say that NVIDIA is going to limit its mining performance using silicon, VBIOS and drivers. However, it seems that you have to polish this practice because the RTX 3060 has been modified and achieves up to 45 MH / s on Ethereum.

Regarding the stock of the RTX 3080 Ti, they do not tell us anything at the moment, but it goes without saying that the demand for this GPU will be fierce for 2 reasons :

  • Gaming.
  • Mining.

Yes, mining. When NVIDIA limits its graphics cards to give poor mining performance, it does so based on certain cryptocurrency algorithms. Therefore, it does not limit its RTX 3000 for mining ALL cryptocurrencies, but for the most profitable: Bitcoin and Ethereum.

This has been discovered with the RTX 3060, which had a great performance with alternative algorithms such as Ravecoin. Obviously, it is not logical to buy a GPU of more than € 1000 to mine cryptocurrencies with little profitability, but who knows if a new cryptocurrency will emerge?

Remember that NVIDIA not only limits the GeForce RTX 3000 but has also introduced NVIDIA CMP: a family of GPUs for mining that is based on the Turing and Ampere architectures. Models will be launched from March.

Do you think what will be the best GPU for gaming? Do you think that its price is fair?
