P50 should be Huawei's first smartphone with its own operating system

The first Huawei smartphones with Harmony OS, the operating system developed by the Chinese brand, can be launched as early as April.

There are new rumors to point out that Huawei's new P50 series will mark the debut of the brand's operating system on smartphones. Harmony OS is the Chinese manufacturer's response to the restrictions imposed by the United States, which prevent the use of Android in the old molds.

The new P50 series does not yet have an official release date, but rumors are anticipating the presentation for April. It should include three options: P50, P50 Pro and P50 Pro Plus, according to the Chinese website GizChina, which puts Harmony OS on the brand's smartphones for the global launch or just for the local market.

Huawei has been using EMUI, a user interface that personalizes the operating system of the brand's equipment, but maintains its base on Android. In September of last year, however, the company had already guaranteed that Harmony OS would arrive on smartphones throughout this year. In December, at another event, he lifted his veil a little more and spoke in numbers, anticipating that this year he still had the ambition to put the Harmony OS on 100 million devices.

In January, Huawei Central quoted the brand's software chief, Wang Chenglu, saying that HarmonyOS-based equipment could reach 300 to 400 million devices in 2021.

The Chinese website that now advances the news of the debut of HarmonyOS on P50 smartphones, also stresses that, with or without its own operating system, the new models will exchange the Google application store for Huawei App Gallery, which has been growing in strength. the past few months.

Harmony OS version 2.0 for developers was released in December and is being used on smart home devices. As the company has underlined since presenting the platform, Harmony OS is much more than an operating system created to respond to the restrictions that the USA has imposed on local companies, in their relationship with Chinese interlocutors. It is a platform designed for a wide range of devices, thinking about a future dominated by the Internet of Things.
