Nvidia RTX 3070, manage to double their amount of VRAM to 16GB

One modder accomplished the seemingly impossible, doubling the amount of VRAM memory on an RTX 3070 graphics card.

Nvidia RTX 3070, double their VRAM to 16GB

The VIK-on modder has managed to increase the amount of memory available on the Palit RTX 3070 GamingPro 8GB VRAM graphics card. The feat has its merit, not only because the computer identifies the 16GB of VRAM memory, but also because it really works.

The process requires knowledge of the PCB and the components, as well as a good pulse to be able to buck and desolder the components of the graphics card. Not only that, but you also have to battle with the BIOS so that the extra memory is detected along with the use of the EVGA Precision X1 tool.

This is not the first time that VIK-on has done this kind of feat, it already did it in its day with the RTX 2070 graphics card.

VIK-on had to swap out all eight Samsung 1GB memory modules for about 2GB , doubling the amount of memory from 8GB to 16GB.

What is clear is that the RTX 3070 graphics cards are prepared, physically, to be able to house about 16GB of memory if Nvidia wanted it and it is very possible that the green company wants to launch models with this amount of memory. Possibly, when the stock problems are over, we can see some variants with 16GB of memory, after all, AMD is launching graphics cards with amounts of memory greater than those of Nvidia.

Still, for most cases, an amount of memory of 8GB of VRAM is sufficient in games and that 16GB of VRAM is hardly noticeable in the overall performance. Anyway, this is an achievement worth commenting on. We will keep you informed.
