MSI GE76 Raider, performance test mining with an RTX 3080

MSI wanted to get on the cryptocurrency mining fever, showing the performance that is achieved with its GE76 Raider laptop, which has an RTX 3080.

The objective of this MSI experiment is not very clear if it tries to promote the purchase of its laptop to mine or, conversely, discourage the purchase due to somewhat low hashing results.

At the end of this month, MSI plans to share the results that they will collect day by day during this month mining cryptocurrencies, detailing how much money can be generated with the laptop.

MSI selected the GE76 Raider gaming laptop, using the RTX 3080 'Mobile' GPU. This model is really expensive and not highly recommended to be used for mining.

The RTX 3080 'Mobile' is also not a graphics card that is known for its great mining capabilities, so the numbers that we are going to see next should not surprise us too much.

In mining tests, MSI used the DaggerHashimoto algorithm to mine Ethereum. The performance of the RTX 3080 'Mobile' is identical to that of the desktop RTX 3070. The results are not good enough to pay off the initial investment for a laptop like this.

The performance of the RTX 3080 Mobile is probably being affected by the lack of GDDR6 memory in the GPU and by a greatly reduced memory bus.

We will see the results they obtain during the month that they will be mining Ethereum. Can it be enough to amortize the investment? Probably not, but we will publish the results as soon as they are available. We will keep you informed.
