GALAX (KFA2) and Gainward Advance to Support Resizable BAR on GeForce RTX 30s

Although it is expected that next Tuesday Nvidia will already offer official support to all its GeForce RTX 30 graphics to access the Resizable BAR technology, two partners of the company, GALAX (KFA2 in Europe) and Gainward are already offering unofficial support. for this technology in their GPUs, and this means that both assemblers have released a VBIOS update for their GPUs (released in the Chinese market) ahead of time.

After its installation, it is allowed to activate this technology offering performance improvements of up to 10 percent in compatible games, remembering that this gain improvement is due to the fact that this technology allows the CPU to take advantage of the GDDR6 memory of the GPU to add extra performance.

Resizable BAR is a PCI Express interface technology. As the user navigates through a world in a game, the GPU memory (VRAM) constantly transfers textures, shaders, and geometry through many small transfers from the CPU to the GPU. With the ever-increasing size of modern gaming assets, this translates to a large number of transfers. With the use of Resizable BAR, assets can be requested as needed and shipped in their entirety, so that the CPU can efficiently access the entire frame buffer. And if multiple requests are made, transfers can occur simultaneously, rather than queuing.

The first games compatible with this technology are:

  • Assassin's Creed Valhalla
  • Battlefield v
  • Borderlands 3
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Gears 5
  • Metro Exodus
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 Watch Dogs: Legion
