As of this version 89, Chrome requires an x86 processor that supports the SSE3 instruction set.

SSE3 - Wikipedia

SSE3, also known by its internal code name Prescott New Instructions (PNI), is the third generation of the SSE instruction set for the IA-32 architecture. Intel introduced SSE3 in early 2004 with the Prescott version of its Pentium 4 processor. In April 2005, AMD introduced a subset of SSE3 in revision E of their Athlon 64 processor (Venice and San Diego). Their SIMD instruction set for the x86 platform, from oldest to newest, are MMX, 3DNow! (developed by AMD), SSE and SSE2.

Chrome 89, the big news

On the new side, we have support for the “First-party sets” function. It allows sites to be identified as belonging to the same entity. For example, it can be used to link google.com and youtube.com ensuring that some data can be shared on these sites. This is not really new because this advance is inspired by the “Enhanced Tracking Protection” feature of Firefox. The browser now defaults to HTTPS if the user does not specify it in the address bar.

The page sharing function is enriched with a share button displaying all the possible options. We also have the discovery of the close environment (devices and users)

A new search field called Tab Search makes it easier to find an open tab. It is materialized by a small arrow at the top right of all browser windows. Note that if this new feature is not active after installing this version 89, you can activate it at the following address

chrome://flags/#enable-tab-search.

To all this is added an important work around the accounts. A profile selection page appears when opening Chrome if several users are registered. It is accompanied by a link to add profiles through a new approach supposed to offer more possibilities and personalization.

The next step is scheduled for April 13 with Chrome 90. A beta version will be released between March 11 and March 18.
