AMD RX 6800M laptops would be based on Navi 22 silicon

AMD is preparing to launch the first portable high-end GPU in a long time, the Radeon RX 6800M. This AMD Radeon RX 6800M laptop will be based on the Navi 22 Silicon.

The American company had launched the RX 5600M and RX 5700M GPUs based on Navi 10 silicon last year. Although they were not high-end GPUs, they offered very good performance in the mid-performance segment, however, they were not very popular in the segment.

This year things are going to be very different with the Navi 2x chips and the launch of the Radeon RX 6800M, which is going to be used in those high-end laptops. This is very good news to increase AMD's presence in notebooks, but this model is not going to share many similarities with the RX 6800 XT that we see in the desktop PC market today.

According to the source, Komachi, the RX 6800M was discovered in the latest Adrenalin controllers and it will not be based on Navi 21 but will use Navi 22 silicon, which is the one used by the RX 6700 XT graphics card.

The GPU is identified by device ID 73D5: C3, which is found between two variants of RX 6700 XT desktop graphics cards. The RX 6700 XT has a total of 2560 Stream Processors and the RX 6800M will most likely have the same specifications. By this rule of three, we assume that the RX 6800M notebook is going to perform similarly to the RX 6700 XT, and is not going to come close to the performance of its desktop namesake. The TGP value of the graphics card could reach 145W.

Lastly, we expect the Navi 22 GPU to launch with a 192-bit or 160-bit memory bus and a memory capacity that ranges from 12GB to 10GB. We will keep you informed.
