Sony confirmed that Twisted Metal, one of the classic PlayStation consoles, will be adapted into a series with the Deadpool writers.
Sony has made clear its commitment to expanding its video game franchises beyond PlayStation consoles. It was first with the Ratchet & Clank animated feature film, and now all eyes are on the Uncharted movie and The Last of Us series. But they will not be the only ones. According to information from Variety, the famous in-vehicle action saga, Twisted Metal, will be the next to have its own series.
The aforementioned media adds that the Twisted Metal series will be an action-comedy, so they will respect the identity of the video game franchise. The story will focus on an outsider who receives an opportunity that will allow him to improve his life. But it will not be easy, as the mission consists of delivering a package through a post-apocalyptic scenario. Of course, the most emblematic character of the saga will appear Sweet Tooth.
"With the help of a car thief who loves to shoot, he will take on wild marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers on the open road. Including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck. Fans of the game know him. like Sweet Tooth ".
What is most interesting, however, is that the script was written by Michael Jonathan Smith, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick. We know the former for writing Cobra Kai, while Reese and Wernick are widely known for being the screenwriters of Zombieland, Deadpool, and Deadpool 2, among other films. In this sense at least, the Twisted Metal series will be in excellent hands. It is worth mentioning that the three aforementioned will also be executive producers
The rest of the executive production is made up of Asad Qizilbash and Hermen Hulst, director of PlayStation Productions and director of PlayStation Studios, respectively. Hulst, in fact, is the main leader of the internal PlayStation video game studios since 2019. In the mentioned year he replaced Shawn Layden as head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios (PlayStation Studios since 2020).
