Huawei P40 4G is official: Great cameras and premium design at a lower price


During the first quarter of 2020, the Huawei P40 series of flagship phones were presented. Now and without much fanfare, the company has launched a 4G variant of the standard Huawei P40, to offer the device's great photographic capabilities at a more affordable price segment. The main difference of this 4G variant with the original 5G will be in the change of its chipset.

Screen

The Huawei P40 4G boasts a 6.1-inch OLED panel with Full HD + resolution and a traditional 60Hz refresh rate. It is equipped with an on-screen fingerprint reader and features a 19.5: 9 aspect ratio. The panel features a pill-shaped perforation to integrate a pair of front camera sensors.

Hardware

The device is powered by the Kirin 990 4G chipset. The hardware is completed with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage in UFS 3.0 format. It receives power from a battery with 3,800 mAh capacity and with support for 22.5W fast charging technology through its USB-C port. The body of the smartphone is IP53 certified.

Cameras

The device boasts a triple rear camera setup with Leica optics. The setup is comprised of a 50-megapixel SuperSensing main sensor (f / 1.9 aperture, 1 / 1.28 sensor size, OIS), a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor (3x optical zoom) with support to OIS optical stabilization. The device offers a maximum (digital) zoom of 30x.

The front camera system is composed of a 32MP sensor and an IR ToF 3D sensor. This front camera is capable of recording 4K video at 60 fps.

System and price of the Huawei P40 4G

The device runs the Android 10 operating system as standard under the EMUI custom layer. It is offered in China for a price of 3,988 yuan ( about 509 euros or $ 525 ), which makes it about 500 yuan (about 63 euros or $ 77) cheaper than its 5G variant. The terminal will be available in two colors: Dark Blue and Frost Silver.

It is not yet known whether this more affordable variant will be available on the international market.
