AMD Acknowledges USB Issues on 500 Series Boards

Many owners of motherboards with AMD 500 series chipsets complain about frequent USB disconnections, causing keyboards, peripherals, storage devices, or even VR headsets to lose connection with the PC.

It has been empirically proven that a VR headset paired with a powerful graphics card equipped with a PCI-E 4.0 interface is the easiest way to reproduce the problem. The proposed options like switching to PCI-E 3.0 mode or disabling C-States in UEFI do not solve the failure, but only reduce the frequency of its occurrence.

AMD acknowledges this issue and asks users to collect statistics for an early fix in the future. The main discussion takes place on the Reddit network. Below is a statement from the chip maker regarding the above flaw.

AMD is aware of a small number of user publications regarding intermittent USB connectivity issues with 500 series chipsets. We are analyzing the root cause and would now like to ask the community to help organize additional hardware configurations. Over the next few days, some users of the r/Amd thread may be contacted directly by an AMD representative (u/AMDOfficial) via PM's Reddit system to request more information.

This request may include detailed hardware configurations, steps to reproduce the problem, specific OS event logs, and other system information relevant to our efforts. We will provide updated information on the issue as it becomes available. Customers with difficulties are always encouraged to submit an online request to AMD Support; this allows us to correlate and compare individual equipment failures.
