Windows 10X: RTM build delayed, Microsoft is working on bug fixes

The Redmond company Microsoft currently seems to be busy removing errors from the Windows 10X operating system variant. The final RTM build could therefore only be delivered in the coming weeks. The first devices should appear in the spring.

In December we reported that the RTM version of Windows 10X had probably already been compiled. This should be build 20279. However, the device manufacturers (OEMs) have not yet received the software. Microsoft may have found a major bug in build 20279 that needs to be fixed first.

Microsoft is compiling new build 20280

As Zac Bowden wrote in a tweet, the Redmond company recently added a new build with the version number 20280 to the Windows 10X release branch. This suggests that build 20279 was not yet the finalized RTM version of the operating system. The actual RTM build could then be created and distributed to the OEMs in the next few weeks. Until then, Microsoft should test the operating system variant again in detail and free it from bugs.

It is currently unclear whether the delay will also affect the launch dates of the first laptops with Windows 10X. The current schedule stipulates that the operating system will be available as a ChromeOS alternative in spring 2021is put on the market. So far it is not known on which devices Windows 10X will be used anyway. The manufacturers should comment on this as soon as the RTM build is available.
