Synology has announced the release of the RackStation RS1221 + and RS1221RP + rack storage servers. This 2U, eight-bay servers were the first in the RackStation series to be powered by the AMD Ryzen V1500B processor. According to Synology, compared to the previous model RS1219 + based on Intel Atom C2538 processor, the computing performance is 3.6 times faster, the performance on random access read I / O operations is 3.8 times (up to 108,000 IOPS), and sequential write speed is 2.3 times (up to 1147 MB / s). This allows for faster data access and backup tasks and enables more users and services to run concurrently while maintaining high performance.
Even with the handles on the front panel, the depths of RS1221 + and RS1221RP + are only 306.6 mm and 407.5 mm, respectively, less than half the size of standard 2U units. This makes the new servers suitable for small racks with limited space.
The default configuration includes 4GB of DDR4 ECC memory, expandable up to 32GB. With a PCIe 3.0 slot, you can add 10 GbE ports or cache SSDs using a dedicated expansion card. Expandable disk space is available with the RX4185 4-bay expansion unit.
The storage is powered by the Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, which not only unifies and simplifies data management but also supports backups, on-premises private cloud, virtual machines, mail servers, and other SaaS services. A distinctive feature of RS1221RP + is the presence of a redundant power supply. Sales of RS1221 + and RS1221RP + have already begun.
