Despite all the hardships that occurred in 2020, vaccination against COVID-19 began in December in Russia, the United States, and other European countries. At the same time, the only drug approved by the EU regulatory authorities, as in the United States, is a joint development of the American Pfizer and the German BioNTech. In our country, vaccination against the new coronavirus infection with "Sputnik V" began on December 5. The only thing that unites Russia and Western countries is the vaccination of the most at-risk populations. So, in Moscow, employees of medical and educational institutions and city social services, both public and private, aged from 18 to 60, can receive the vaccine. In turn, in the US and the EU, people over 70 and even 80 years old can receive the vaccine: recently, 89-year-old Spanish resident Josefa Perez received the first injection. But the most interesting news came quite recently: it turned out that the nurse of the nursing home for the elderly was vaccinated but still fell ill with COVID-19. Vaccination against coronavirus in the world
At the time of this writing, the number of reported cases of COVID-19 has exceeded 82 million, and according to Johns Hopkins University, the disease has claimed the lives of about 1.7 million people. Given the number of new cases of infection with the new, more infectious strain of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, more and more countries are fencing off from the UK, on the eve of announcing a new tough lockdown.
At the same time, the total number of infected in Russia reached 3,131,550 (more than 2.1% of the population), the TASS news agency told reporters on Wednesday at the operational headquarters for the fight against coronavirus. Thus, our country ranks fourth in the number of registered cases of COVID-19 in the world. The US continues to lead the list, with a record 20 million cases; the second and third places are occupied by India and Brazil with 10 and 7 million cases, respectively.

But the good news in this whole story, fortunately, is a massive coronavirus vaccination that is being rolled out around the world. At the end of 2020, several vaccines against COVID-19 were registered in the world: two vaccines were registered in Russia: "Sputnik V" and "EpiVacCorona", and on December 5 in Moscow, vaccination against coronavirus with the drug "Sputnik V" started. In the United States and Great Britain, people began to inoculate the population with the drug from Pfizer / BioNTech. In addition, the drug developed by Moderna was approved in the country, and the British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca announced the beginning of clinical trials for the combination of its AZD1222 vaccine. But how effective are these vaccines and can you get SARS-CoV-2 after being vaccinated?
Can I get sick after vaccination?
Recently, the world media reported at once about two similar cases of infection with a new coronavirus after vaccination. According to the Spanish El Pais, the results of the PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 of the nurse who received the vaccination showed a positive result. Sources in the health department indicate that the risk of infection for the elderly residents of the boarding house is minimal, however, the elderly were preventively isolated.
The second case of new coronavirus infection after vaccination with vaccines from Pfizer and BioNTech was reported in the United States. An ambulance nurse in the California city of San Diego tested positive for the coronavirus just days after being vaccinated against the disease, according to US media reports.

The third person to test positive for the coronavirus was a 45-year-old nurse from the United States who received the first dose of the vaccine prepared by Pfizer and BioNTech. As the victim himself admitted to KGTV, an affiliate of ABC News, the only side effect he faced after being vaccinated was a pain in his arm. However, six days later, a nurse was hospitalized with symptoms of COVID-19.
Immunization in two stages
Clinical trials of the vaccine Pzifer and BioNTech have shown that immunization of the vaccinated (which according to the manufacturers is effective in 95% of cases) can be achieved a few days after receiving the second dose of the drug, which in the case of Pzifer takes about 21 days, as in the case of Russian vaccine "Sputnik-V". According to experts interviewed by journalists, cases of infection of medical workers after vaccination are another reminder that vaccines are not a panacea, and the victory over a pandemic will take time.
