Polish authorities open an investigation over the problematic release of Cyberpunk 2077 and possible cheating of players

The Polish newspaper Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reported that the country's Office for Competition and Consumer Protection has begun an audit against CD Projekt in connection with the release of Cyberpunk 2077.

First of all, attention will be paid to the inadequate quality of the console version of the game and how the company deals with players who are unhappy with the game. The Office said the following:

We'll check out how CD Projekt is working to fix or resolve issues that are preventing play on different consoles. How the company intends to act in relation to people who have filed complaints and are unhappy with the purchase due to the inability to comfortably play the game on their device, despite the previous assurances from the developers.

Upon completion of the investigation, a decision will be made on what to do next. There are several options:

  • The company will be fined 10% of income
  • Will be required to give players additional digital bonuses
  • Requires buyers of the game who have not refunded money for it to refund part of the funds

Prior to the release of Cyberpunk 2077, the company argued to investors that the game performed "surprisingly well" on consoles. The game really works on consoles "amazingly". Also, CD Projekt did not send the press keys for the console versions of Cyberpunk 2077 prior to release, so that journalists would not find out and report on the state of the game on consoles.

After the release of the game, the management of CD Projekt responded to investors that they simply did not devote enough time to the console version of the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 should have one major patch each in January and February. But it is not known how much they will affect the situation on the standard PS4 and Xbox One, where drawdowns of up to 20 frames are very common.
