Reuters, citing Tencent, reported that Nintendo has shipped a million copies of the Switch in China since the end of 2019. According to Niko Partners, a million Switch is already more than the combined PS4 and Xbox One sales in the country over the same period.
Until 2014, the sale of console games was banned in China, forcing players to use the services of the gray market, where, according to Niko Partners, about four million Switches were bought.
In China, the mobile gaming segment is considered the main market, while consoles are still a niche area.
China is important to Nintendo. This country does not yet have a console culture like the US or Japan, which offers room for growth for the company.
Nintendo intends to sell 24 million Switch in the shadow of its fiscal year ending in March. The console now has total sales of 70 million.
