Mobile GeForce RTX 3070 is up to 40% faster than RTX 2070 Max-Q in Geekbench OpenCL test

According to a fresh entry from the Geekbench synthetic test database, which was noted by the notorious Tum_Apisak, the mobile version of the GeForce RTX 3070 video card really has 5120 CUDA cores on board. The novelty was lit up as part of an unknown HP Omen laptop.

The system specifications indicate that the graphics chip is equipped with 40 Compute Units, which in the case of NVIDIA speaks of Streaming Multiprocessors. Each SM block consists of 128 CUDA cores for a total of 5120.

The video card also includes 8 GB of GDDR6 video memory. At the moment it is not known which of the options for the GeForce RTX 3070 graphics accelerator - Max-P (maximum performance) or Max-Q (maximum energy efficiency) - is announced as part of the HP Omen laptop. However, given the maximum frequency of the GPU, which in the Geekbench test was 1.29 GHz, we can talk about an energy-efficient version of the video card.

In two independent tests of OpenCL, the graphics accelerator showed results of 101,621 and 110,839 points, which puts it between the desktop GeForce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Super based on the Turing architecture. At the same time, the novelty was 30 and 41% faster than the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q model.

The announcement of NVIDIA mobile video cards of the Ampere generation is expected at the CES 2021 electronics exhibition. According to the latest data, the older model GeForce RTX 3080 is equipped with 6144 CUDA cores and will be able to offer up to 16 GB of GDDR6 memory.
