Microsoft launches multiple Windows 10 services and apps, Office Lens Scanner is now recommended for mobile use

Microsoft is shutting down several Windows 10 services and applications. One of the most relevant ones already under the knife is the Office Lens application.

As stated on the support page, some cloud services in Office Lens for Windows, such as saving images to OneDrive, OneNote, Word, PowerPoint, or PDF, are not available as of December 31, 2020. Additionally, Office Lens for Windows 10 is no longer available for download from the Microsoft Store as of January 1, 2021.

To “continue to enjoy all the features of Office Lens”, Microsoft recommends “download and use the latest Office Lens for iOS or Office Lens for Android” on your mobile device.

As a reminder, using Office Lens, you can easily take pictures of notes and information on boards and signs, as well as in menus, sticky notes, and other sources containing a lot of text. The application allows you to convert their images into editable Word and PowerPoint documents.

From a more distant perspective, after March 2021, support for the old version of the Microsoft Edge browser, which was used before the transition to the Chromium engine, will cease. And effective August 17, 2021, the remaining Microsoft 365 apps and services will no longer support IE 11. Last year, the web version of Microsoft Teams stopped working with IE11.

The company also plans to stop supporting such services and services in 2021:

  • TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1
  • Skype Skype for Business Online Connector
  • Visio Web Access
