Fortnite surpasses Animal Crossing as the most played game on Nintendo Switch during 2020

The battle royale also sweeps the hybrid console.

The news channel of the Nintendo Switch console has published a list with the 20 most played games during the year 2020 among European players. "The classification is based on the playing time of all the Nintendo Switch consoles in which European users of the Nintendo Account share their usage information," Nintendo specified before revealing the list.

To the surprise of some, the free battle royale Fortnite has managed to be the most played game of 2020 on Nintendo Switch followed by Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a best-seller that was launched last March. Among the rest of the titles, the shortage of new releases this year is reflected, as Pokémon Sword, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe occupy high positions also demonstrating their lasting success among players.
