Donald Trump's Twitch account got a permanent ban

A couple of weeks ago, following the attack on the US Capitol, Twitch decided to temporarily ban the account of former President Donald Trump. Then the representative of the platform said that this is necessary to prevent potential incitement to violence. The administration said it will review the status of Trump's account after he cedes office in favor of the new president, Joe Biden.

Shortly after its inauguration on January 20, Twitch announced that it would permanently block the former president's account:

We have blocked President Trump's Twitch channel indefinitely due to the risk of further incitement to violence. [Trump's] statements continue to be interpreted as a call to action and we have taken these measures to avoid potential harm to the community and society at large.

The administration emphasizes that Twitch has a clear set of rules that prohibit the spread of hatred, harassment or incitement. At the same time, the management noted that it will reconsider the situation with respect to the channels of people or organizations that may overstep the boundaries of what is permitted even outside of Twitch.

This decision is just another step on the path to a healthier community ... even if some of the measures taken leave thousands of dissatisfied. Many criticize Twitch for being so passionate about creating a safe environment that the platform is turning into a second Tumblr with echo chambers of interest.
