"AMD vs Intel" Surface Laptop 4, processor only to be upgraded

Microsoft's next-generation Surface Laptop 4 follows the recent Microsoft trend of upgrading only the interior components, not the exterior design. There will be no change beyond the replacement of the specifications from the new Surface Laptop 4 to the latest Intel Core and AMD Ryzen processors.

Windows Central reported that the Surface Laptop 4 will be powered by an Intel 11th Gen Tiger Lake processor and an AMD Ryzen processor. However, it is not clear whether it is a Surface Edition chip based on the Ryzen 5000 mobile chip that will be sold today. The price is the same as the previous one. The 13.5-inch product starts at $999 and the 15-inch product starts at $1,299 and is expected to be released in April.

The only change to the Surface Laptop 4 is the addition of Ryzen-equipped models to the 13.5-inch and 15-inch products.

Surface enthusiasts may be disappointed, but let's think about the specs of the laptop Surface Pro 7+, which Microsoft recently launched, will be similar to the laptop 4. This tablet product contains an Intel Tiger Lake process, LTE, and an additionally replaceable SSD. However, since the Surface 7+ is basically designed as an enterprise product, this specification will not be added to the Surface Laptop 4 as it is a value-added feature and a replaceable SSD has been added for enterprise deployment and management of new hardware.

The most anticipated will also be whether Microsoft will release both Ryzen and Core chips versions. Users will be able to pick the product they want, and even stiff reviewers will be able to compare two competing CPUs in the same form factor. PCWorld also compared the AMD Ryzen 3000 to Intel's 10th Gen Ice Lake on the Surface Laptop 3.

We don't know exactly why the new Surface Laptop will be released without major changes in the exterior, but in any case, it will be something to look forward to.
