AMD 16-core processor with a $ 1,000 price tag? Ryzen Threadripper 5000 Lineup May Have Such Model

Perhaps it will be called Ryzen Threadripper 5950X

At the moment, among the carriers of the Zen 3 architecture, there are only Ryzen 5000 desktop processors. Mobile Ryzen 5000U and Ryzen 5000H should join them soon, and sometime later Ryzen Threadripper 5000 will be released.

And today, information has appeared on the Web about the expansion of the line of such CPUs, and towards the younger models. The source claims that a 16-core model will return to the lineup. Recall that in the Ryzen Threadripper 3000 line, the youngest is the 24-core 3960X, and with the Ryzen 9 3950X, there was no particular point in releasing a HEDT-class processor with 16 cores.

It is not very clear what has changed, but the source talks about a possible appearance in the Ryzen Threadripper 5000 line of a model with 16 cores, that is, it will be very similar to the Ryzen 9 5950X. Of the differences, you can expect only a four-channel RAM controller and additional PCIe lanes. And such a CPU can also be called the Ryzen Threadripper 5950X.

Given that the 16-core Ryzen 9 5950X has an MSRP of $ 800, its Threadripper sibling is likely to be more expensive. If you remember that the 24-core Ryzen Threadripper started at $ 1,400, the new-generation 16-core model could well be $ 1,000-1200.
